Historical Overview

SEM

The establishment of the new SSPU in 2001 led to the creation of the School of Economics and Management (SEM) as a secondary teaching unit of SSPU.

Currently, SEM offers ten undergraduate programs with a focus on management and economics. The school's training goal is to cultivate versatile business talents with vocational skills, professional ethics, and an international perspective within the context of engineering education. It upholds the traditions of integrating engineering and education, industry-academia collaboration, and international exchange. SEM emphasizes deepening connotation construction and improving education quality through innovative talent training models and educational reforms. The school has achieved significant milestones in reforming integrated practical and theoretical talent training models, establishing all-English majors, obtaining international accreditation, and introducing new disciplines.

In serving the local economy, SEM provides certification training in areas such as e-commerce and logistics, Ningxia exhibition cadre training, and collaborates with external companies to offer training for international financial professional certificates like ACCA and CFA. Additionally, the school conducts numerous theme-based training programs for enterprises, institutions, and government departments in fields such as financial management, human resources, and macroeconomic situation and development strategy, resulting in significant social benefits.

SEM places a strong emphasis on international exchanges and cooperation, maintaining close ties with over 20 universities and institutions in more than ten countries and regions. This commitment provides a valuable platform and opportunities for expanding international vision, cross-cultural learning, and enhancing the work capabilities of both teachers and students.

At the School of Economics and Management (SEM) of Shanghai Polytechnic University (SSPU), a comprehensive range of business degree programs is available, spanning from associate to master's levels. Notably, SEM is poised to integrate four associate programs from a sister institution within SSPU. Among the offerings, three undergraduate business programs are in the process of pursuing accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

SEM's development of new degree programs is in strict compliance with the Regulations on the Management of Undergraduate Programs in Regular Higher Education Institutions, as mandated by the Ministry of Education. The establishment of these programs is conducted in line with the Directory of Undergraduate Programs in Regular Higher Education Institutions also issued by the Ministry. As a result, SEM primarily awards two types of bachelor degrees: Bachelor of Management and Bachelor of Economics, with the E-Commerce program uniquely conferring a Bachelor of Engineering.

In alignment with the Regulations on Academic Degrees of the People's Republic of China and the Interim Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on Academic Degrees of the People's Republic of China, the conferral of university degrees is overseen by the Academic Degrees Committee, under the authorization of the State Council. Consequently, both bachelor and master degrees at SEM are officially granted by SSPU.

SEM primarily concentrates on its undergraduate offerings. However, in 2022, the SEM launched its inaugural master's degree program in International Business, which received approval from the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. The program welcomed its first cohort in 2023, currently educating 60 domestic graduate students and one international student. Moreover, a novel undergraduate program in Standardization Engineering received the Ministry of Education's approval in 2022 and commenced with an inaugural class of 39 students in the fall of 2023.

In conclusion, SEM at SSPU currently administers 10 undergraduate degree programs and one master's degree program, with three of the undergraduate programs actively seeking ACBSP accreditation:
